out and about: JRDN

ahi tuna nachos: avocado, mango, fresno chili, shiso, cilantro, crispy wonton chips, sriracha aioli, sesame seeds

JRDN, pronounced jordan is located in the pacific ocean water front tower 23 hotel, in pacific beach. It has a lovely patio on the water and is one of my favorite haunts.

Mostly for the food, but it also provides excellent people watching opportunities. Excellent, because it’s right on the boardwalk and all kinds of tourists and locals abound. It’s like having dinner and a show.

It also happens to be one of my favorite non-sushi restaurants for sushi and fresh fish.

Last visit there were a few new items to try.

The ahi tuna nachos were so good. The ahi was so fresh, the mango a perfect sweet bite, and did you take a gander at the avocado? Perfection. Spicy with out being too hot, or drowning out the other ingredients. You could taste everything in every bite. Definitely going to make a version at home, and headed back sooner rather than later for more.

yellowtail roll: mango, spicy tuna, avocado, cucumber, tempura shrimp, sweet chili ponzu

The yellowtail roll is my favorite and a must have anytime I’m at jrdn. Mango and yellowtail the perfect combo? Who would have thunk? And when combined with spicy tuna, shrimp tempura, avocado, and cucumber placed on a light drizzle of ponzo? Even better.

spicy salmon roll: salmon, albacore, masago, cucumber, spicy garlic ponzu

The spicy salmon roll was new to the menu, and on my list to try. And I’m so glad I did. Equally as excellent as the yellowtail roll, but completely different in flavor profile. Fresh fish, crisp veggies, roe, and a spicy ponzu.

Yet another reason to put jrdn on your list, either to try, or for a repeat visit.
