homemade holiday eggnog

Is there a more perfect drink for the christmas holidays than eggnog? What about eggnog with with a simple syrup crushed candy cane rim? I think not.

To be honest, I’m not a fan of most eggnogs. I absolute despise the premade refrigerated ones, but give me a homemade nog, and I’m a happy girl.

So to be fair to the rest of you… I’m gonna share my version with y’all.

Ingredients:

4 cups milk

2 cups heavy cream

1/2 tsp ground cinnamon

1 stick cinnamon

1 tsp vanilla paste

1 tsp ground nutmeg

12 egg yolks

1 cup granulated sugar

1 1/2 cups light rum

simple syrup

1/4 cup sugar

1/4 cup water

heated until sugar dissolved, and cooled

crushed candy canes

Directions:

Dip pitcher rim, and glass rim in simple syrup, and then in crushed candy canes.

In a large stockpot whisk together milk, cream, cinnamon, cinnamon sticks, paste, and nutmeg. Bring to a boil, and then remove from heat, whisking occasionally.

In a bowl whisk together egg yolks and sugar.

Temper eggs with hot liquid. Add heated eggs to milk mixture. Whisk together.

Can serve as is if you would like a non-alcoholic beverage.

Otherwise, add in rum and whisk to combine.
