out and about: public house la jolla

The hubs recently took one of my kiddos on a college exploratory trip. They had a blast, but were out of town for five days… leaving me at home with the other three.

Which is no big deal, jamie’s been leaving me along with the kids for work, weeks at a time, since the twins were baby-babies. But, we wanted to debrief about the different kiddos we were with and how the long weekend went.

They got back around 11, so we felt like a tap room was an appropriate choice. Good drinks, good food, great atmosphere, and comfort first. So we headed to our fav. local beer/wine/bar food spot… public house la jolla.

Jamie went for a 3 beer flight, all different ipa’s (naturally). His favorite was the west coast ipa by burgeon (naturally).

mimosa flight: orange, mango, cran-rasp, cran-rasp

It was before noon, so i felt like a mimosa flight was the appropriate choice.

Typically the flight comes with orange, mango, pineapple, and cranberry-raspberry juices. However, since I’m allergic to pineapple, they always let me swap it out for a double-up. Cran-rasp is my fav, so 2 of those please.

ahi and avocado poke tower: cubed saku aaa grade ahi and avocado served with wonton strips

It’s not our favorite poke in town… that being said, we never fail to order it. Fish is always fresh, wontons are always crisp, and the amount of avocado is out of this world. It’s really the best starter, to start with.

potato skins: crispy potato skins topped with melted cheddar cheese, crumbled bacon and green onions, served with a choice of ranch dressing or sour cream

They aren’t kidding. These are definitely on the crispy side of potato skins. Personally, I prefer my cheese a little bit more melty, but it never stops me from devouring them. With both ranch and sour cream (naturally).

At this point we typically vacillate between ordering tacos or sliders. Typically sharing (and then bringing home the remainder) a few different flavors.

bbq tri-tip: grilled tri-tip steak topped with barbecue sauce

Tri-tip, all the way. Completely tender meat, the buns melt in your mouth. Pro tip, ask for extra bbq.

We always swap out onion rings for the fries… and it’s a superior choice. Especially if you put a onion ring inside said sliders (hint-hint).

southern chicken: crispy fried chicken breast, pickles, topped with a chipotle coleslaw

Love a good a juice crispy chicken slider, especially when the slaw is falling out. And this is definitely one of those.

We also ordered the tots instead of the fries with these sliders, and the tots are so crispy and perfect. Highly recommend this swap.

perfect spot if you are looking for a casual hangout, fun bar, that also serves good food. It’s a win-win all around.
