out and about: brunch at the lot la jolla

The funny thing about living as an adult in the town you grew up in, is all the changes you are privy too. Recently when talking to a friend, I was trying to explain where something was, but instead of using today’s landmarks, I used the old store that used to be there.

That’s the case with the lot.

While I appreciate once again having a theater in la jolla (we were without one for a few decades); I do miss the gourmet grocery store (rip jonathon’s) it took over.

The saving grace, is that this particular movie theater comes with a decent restaurant attached. And while you can order from the restaurant and bar directly to your seats, we also hit up the restaurant as a stand alone on the regular.

The kids all enjoy it, it’s a great spot for mom’s nights out, and both our kiddo’s schools and the hub’s work have hosted events there.

parsley truffle fries: grand padano, parsley

Y’all know we love a good starter, and while these truffle fries can be hit or miss; when they are hit, I even prefer them to popcorn in the movies.

It’s a great starter to snack on whilst you decide what else you want to order.

ahi poke nachos: marinated yellowfin tuna, wonton chips, green onion, avocado, pickled red onion, furikake, cilantro sriracha aioli

Another favorite for kiddos and adults a like are the ahi poke nachos. We love the pickled onions, and the sriracha aioli is perfectly spicy without being overpowering.

tuna poke bowl: seaweed salad, avocado, sesame seeds, cucumber, sticky rice

Speaking of poke… someone is always getting the poke bowl. It’s delish. And, fun fact… you can order it with lettuce instead of rice, if you are so inclined.

buttermilk pancakes: whipped butter, maple syrup add bacon or sausage / chocolate chips, strawberries or blueberries

Inevitably someone’s ordering the pancakes. I love that they are individually customizable, making them perfect for everyone. Plus, look at that fluff.

chopped turkey cob: lettuce mix, tomato, egg, avocado, cucumber, bacon, blue cheese crumbles, champagne vinaigrette

Fun fact. The first time I met my mother-in-law, I discovered that she was the only other person I knew who had girard’s champagne salad dressing on hand at all times.

Which, is why I have a special place in my heart for any cobb salad that is served with champagne dressing. It was served like that at the yacht club my grandparents were members at (and was delish) and it’s served that way at the lot. And also in my home, but I digress…

Love this salad. Minus the blue cheese for me, please.

build your own omelette: choose your toppings: bell peppers, bacon, chorizo, queso fresco, sausage, spinach, red onion, mushrooms, cheddar & jack cheese blend, tomato, add avocado or bacon 4 served with english muffin and breakfast potatoes

Making your own omelette is never a bad idea. Any time my kiddos can customize something their way, they will be all over it. And they certainly are with this one.

Plus, the english muffins and breakfast potatoes are pretty darn good too.
