grilled beef kafta with tomatoes and onions

We’ve talked before about how my kids love a good meatball. And these lebanese kaftas are not different. But what is different, is the fact that they’re grilled.

You can build them around a skewer (like I do) or you can make them free form. As long as they are oval shaped, you’re doing it right.

Ingredients:

2 lbs ground beef

1/2 sweet yellow onion, minced

1 large handful italian parsley, minced

1 Tbsp tomato paste

1/2 tsp black ground pepper

1 tsp salt

1 tsp cumin

1/2 tsp all spice

1/4 tsp cinnamon

1 tsp granulated garlic

1 1/2 sweet yellow onion, halved and sliced

3 tomatoes, halved and sliced

3 Tbsp evoo

1 tsp salt

Directions:

Preheat gill to high.

Combine beef, minced onion, italian parsley, tomato paste, black pepper, 1 tsp salt, cumin, all spice, cinnamon, and garlic . Form into oval patties. Skewer or not. Your choice.

Grill 5 minutes on top shelf.

Shift to bottom shelf. Grill 5 minutes, then flip and 5 more minutes. Remove from heat.

In a grill safe pan or tray toss sliced onions, tomatoes, evoo and 1 tsp salt.

Grill for 15 minutes until tomatoes and onions are softened.

Serve kafta over tomatoes and onions.
