out and about: the catamaran oceana coastal kitchen lunch

original 40 westerly flow: double dry hopped west coast ipa

strawberry contessa: gin, lilet, strawberry, lemon, soda

I’ve been going to the catamaran for family events since I was little. And now we take our kids for easter and mother’s day pretty much every year. It’s a long time staple favorite.

It’s also one of our favorite spots to sneak out to, when we have a few moments to ourselves for a late lunch.

There’s nothing better than sitting on the bay, and watching the myriad of different people walking the boardwalk, while enjoying a delightful beverage and eating tasty snacks.

We were so excited to see original 40’s westerly flow on the menu. If you remember we’ve been to the original 40 brewery, and absolutely loved it.

I’ve been obsessed with the french blonde, since taylor declared it her favorite cocktail, and was so excited to see that they had a strawberry version (does that make it a strawberry blonde?), that with the exception of elderflower liquor, was pretty similar to the original. It was a good drink, but i do think the liquor is needed to fully round out the flavors.

hamachi crudo: white miso, micro cilantro, jalepeno

Can’t go to the catamaran without ordering the hamachi. It’s on both the bar menu at moray, and the oceana costal kitchen menu, so you can’t miss it.

Not mentioned in the description, but definitely worth mentioning are the pickled mustard seeds… seriously they make for the best bite. Also the radish slices provide the perfect crunchy element.

Pro tip, make sure you get all the elements in one bite.

summer water sparkling rose: central coast

oceana house roll: eel, tempura shrimp, crab, nori, avocado, unagi sauce

I love this rose. It seriously tastes like summer in a glass. Bubbly, light, and not overly sweet. Definitely should be on your summer sparkling list.

Another must order is the house sushi roll. Even my non-eel fan husband loves this one. It’s a great roll. But beware, the tempura shrimp and crispies can fill you up.

steamed black mussels: white wine, fennel, linguisa sausage, fresno butter, cilantro with crostini and fries

The broth is what you want. It’s all about the broth here. And all the things you can dip into the sauce… the mussels themselves, the crostini, the fries. All are made better by the broth.

It’s a warm dish, so obviously better when it’s colder outside. We tend to order it during winter, avoid it during the summer, and then get excited when the temperatures start to drop off and we can order it anew in the fall.

chocolate whoopie pie: chocolate cake, vanilla ice cream, cinnamon crunch, chocolate sauce

When the kids were little, we always brought dessert home to the babysitter as an extra treat. Now that the kids are teenagers, and don’t need a sitter, we tend to order a dessert, have a bite or two and then bring it home to the kids for an extra treat.

As such, we are always mindful of desserts that travel the 5 to 10 minutes home, well.

And this whoopie pie is no exception. It was delish in person, the cinnamon crunch a perfect contrast to the moist cake and chilled ice cream. The perfect compliment. And, it transferred home beautifully.

Such great choices all around, and many, many more menu items for you to choose from. We love the variety, and I’m sure you will too.
