out and about: lunch at farmer and the seahorse
Farmer and the seahorse is one of local favorites, and a quite literal hidden gem. Tucked behind the torrey pines golf course and inside a business park, f&s has long been a favorite to-go spot for happy hours (with live music).
Recently we were in the area, and popped in for a quick lunch bite. We’ve done many a happy hour, lazy weekend brunches with games on the greens, and an exorbitant amount of school galas, but never lunch before. No music, just great tasting food and drinks.
poke bowl: salmon, spicy mayo tuna, gochujang pineapple, sushi rice, pickled ginger, edamame, avocado, cucumbers, furikake, crispy shallots
hot chocolate
If there’s a poke bowl on the menu, it’s a pretty safe bet my kiddo’s gonna order it. Especially if it says spicy tuna.
Only complaint was the bowl was less about the fresh fish v/s all the accoutrements. Other than that, it made for a great lunch bowl.
apple salad: honeycrisp apples, spring mix, dried cranberries, white cheddar, walnuts, apple celery vinaigrette (add steak)
white mocha
I love this salad combo… apples, cranberries, white cheddar. And don’t get me started on the apple celery vinaigrette.
And the addition of steak? Just makes all the flavors pop even brighter. And that steak? Perfectly cooked and tender.
Pro tip? Ask for a side of horseradish.
