out and about: mustangs & burros at the estancia

One of our old fav’s mustangs & burros is a fantastic stomping ground for happy hour, entrees, and a phenomenal tequila offering. The estancia has gone through many changes throughout the years - with mustangs & burros being a part of that… but the outside patio is still there, and a great place for late lunch or dinner.

lalo blanco on the rocks

This particular trip was after an not particularly fun dr’s visit, so we started out with beer and a cold tequila.

We’ve had lalo at a few different festivals around town, it’s from jalisco, additive free, and quite delish.

Cheers.

totopos: house made salsa rojo, salsa verde, warm tortilla chips

Biggest bummer is that chips and salsa are no longer free. And m&b has the best salsa. It’s 100 percent jamie’s type of salsa. So yummy. Also the chips weren’t warm. Tasty, but if you’re gonna promise me fresh warm chips, I want warm chips.

lallier brut rose

Can’t have too much tequila, so luckily that’s where an excellent glass of sparkling rose fits in.

baja halibut al pastor taco: grilled pineapple salsa, shredded cabbage, chipotle crema

No longer on the main menu, tacos are part of the m&b happy hour menu- so if it’s a taco you seek, make sure to get there before 6pm.

While I can’t attest to these particular tacos with my pineapple allergy - they are a favorite of jamie’s. And I can attest to the fact that all the other tacos I’ve ever been served have been fantastic.

peruvian lomo saltado prime new york: roasted tomatoes, pearl onions, aji amarillo demi, yucca fries

Craving a steak? Look no further. Especially if you love a new york. The sauce adds the right amount of balance and some sweet heat, while the grilled tomatoes and pearl onions when combined with a bite of steak make for a perfect bite.

And yucca fries? Yes please. Have you had cassava? I like to use the flour as a gluten-free healthier alternative. The cassava root itself is starchy- almost like if parsnips and potatoes had babies. All this is a long way of saying… get the yucca fries.
