apple crumble pie

Is there anything more american, than apple pie? It’s pretty much the poster child of american, no?

Can I tell you a secret though? I am not a fan of the traditional apple pie. Too much crust and not enough apples for me.

When I think of apple pie, I want apples and more apples. I want to have a sweet crumbly topping that pairs perfectly with those apples.

And that’s why I prefer this apple crumble pie over any other.

Ingredients:

8 - 10 apples, cored and sliced

1 Tbsp flour

1/4 cup butter, cut in small cubes

1/8 cup white sugar

1 cup flour

1 cup rolled oats

1 cup brown sugar

1 cup butter, softened to room temp

Directions:

Preheat oven to 350.

In a large bowl, toss sliced apples with 1 Tbsp flour, 1/8 cup white sugar, and 1/4 cup butter cubes.

Pour sliced apple mixture into a 9 inch wide, deep dish pie pan.

In a separate bowl combine 1 cup flour, 1 cup brown sugar, 1 cup oats, and 1 cup softened butter. Use your hands to truly crumble it all together.

Press crumble gently on top of apples.

Bake pie on middle oven rack for 45 minutes. Checking after 30. Pie should be bubbling and slightly golden brown, and apples should be fork tender.
