out and about: summer wine series at jrdn

chandon: garden spritz

We headed out to the last of the sip into summer wine series offered at jrdn last week. And fittingly, both for the end of this years’ series, and for us, it was highlighting bubbles from moet and chandon and domaine chandon.

The summer wine series is offered every wednesday from june to october, and features a different vineyard or style each week, along with some light bites, for $40 a person.

We were also able to bring our tastings down to the dining room, and have them with our dinner, during the 6 - 8pm event.

We sampled several different bubbles, and there was no limit on how many samples you could return for, obviously depending on your tolerance and driving situation. (drink responsibly).

First up was the chandon garden spritz. It was described as a south african take on the aperol spritz, we both really enjoyed it, and I was happy to discover that it is easily accessible.

The chandon brut, was everything you would except. Crisp, light, and not overly sweet. A perfect summer sparkling.

One of my all time fav’s, moet brut reserve never fails to disappoint. It as delish as always. Lots of bubbles, smooth and clean. It’s not jamie’s fav, but that just leaves more for me, so I’m not complaining.

This was the first rose we tried; and i’ve had etiole before - but only as a brut. I’ve been obsessed with sparkling rose this summer, and this one, while not a brut, was completely my jam. We both loved it, and it may or may not be on the next grocery list. There’s something about a sparkling rose that just screams summer.

The star of the show. Deliciously brut. Lots of bubbles, the ruinart rose was exactly what you would hope it would be. The perfect wine for summer sipping while watching the sunset.

Which… is exactly what we did.

We rounded out our tasting, with veuve. or verve. you do you. We’ll stick with veuve tho. A long time family favorite, that makes repeat appearances at most of our get-togethers. Fresh and clean, with lots of effervescence, it’s not sweet, and pairs perfectly with all the things.

sundown roll: salmon, spicy tuna, crispy taro, avocado, yuzu-miso sauce

So we (very obviously) “snuck” down to get dinner, on the outside patio with our glasses of veuve.

We started with the sundown roll, which is the perfect combo of salmon and spicy tuna. Not to mention, any roll with avocado is always on my list. And did you hear the yuzu-miso sauce? Not looking forward to the fall menu change-over when they redo all the rolls on the menu. Here’s hoping it will make a comeback next summer.

tuna, tuna, tuna roll: ahi tuna, albacore tuna, spicy tuna, yamagobo, shiso, negi, cucumber, sesame ginger sauce

Next up was the old reliable, tuna, tuna, roll, which lets face it, never gets old. This roll has been on the menu through several iterations, so it’s fair to say that other’s like it as much as we do.

truffle fries: gremolata, duck fat aioli, parmesan

Rounded out our evening with and order of truffle fries, which were so excellent, we devoured the whole serving, despite being full, and originally planning on taking most of them home for a late night snack.

And, if you weren’t aware, fries and bubbles are the definition of perfect pairing. And the perfect ending to our evening.
