out and about: cara

So we first learned about cara when we were headed to the greek theater in la to watch gracie abrams. Not only is it in the star studded area of los feliz, but the hotel is super cute, super bougie, and the restaurant is full of rave reviews. And we love a rave review.

Our “man on the street” who was also the kids first babysitter who was with us for the first three years of avy’s life also recommended - so yes.

Fast forward to this year where colin and I were headed to a survivor 50th event that was announced less than 24 hours before it began. And it was located at the griffith observatory. Right up the street. Win. Win.

We knew the hotel and booked it. 1 room left. We headed to universal for the afternoon, but when deciding dinner plans, I showed him the menu at the hotel. Because your girl was still obsessing over the tomato capresse she had had a year and a half prior. And wanted it again. Seriously one of my favorite meals.

He perused. And was totally on board to eat at cara.

la bulle: sparkling rose

I started out with a sparkling. Yes. Shocker. Light, bright, and airy.

lamb skewers: mint sauce, cumin yogurt

My kid loves lamb. Hates chicken and fish. But lamb and tofu? All in. So sharing the lamb skewers as a starter? No brainer.

We loved them. Him so much I was only able to have one. But I am all about the kids indulging in all the good food things. ‘Cause foodie training.

tomatoes and mozzarella: medley of organic summer tomatoes, grilled sourdough

The dish that I came back for. And I was so excited it was back on the menu. All the dishes we had previously tried were so good. But this is the one that stuck with me. And it was just as good as I remembered. I could do a tomato dish any day of the week. Tomatoes are my love language. Especially homegrown and smelling like the garden.

black truffle pappardelle: house made pappardelle, olive oil, 24-month aged parmesan

And this is why I don’t stress about my pickiest eater’s preferences. He may not do chicken, not a huge fan of potatoes… but will 100 percent request the freshly grated truffle pasta. Which he also loved and requested more truffle action at home. And there was no “stop” to the amount of grated truffle or parm. Kid was gonna take as much as he could get.
